As a huge sports fan all my life I think this victory by Ollie Hoare in the 1500m Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will become one of the great sports commentaries of all time. Full of passion, enthusiasm and knowledge. However, definitely biased and nationalistic but the opponents treated with respect and accuracy.
Sport commenttaing is about communicating, live drama, building the game and highlighting the players. Bridge has long sessions of up to 3 hours and in major tournaments all day or night sometimes for many days on end.
Analysis, statistics, story telling, enthusiasm and humour are all essential commentary values to bring our great game alive.
Hopefully we will be celebrating more Australian wins with enthusiasm in International Bridge events soon.
